Cody Wilkins, The UpNext
Title: Marketing Director
City: Chicago, IL. In the city specifically, not one of those suburban liars.
Favorite Genre of Music:
My favorite genre of music is hip hop, but it's tough because there are so many different layers to it. I like hip hop with kind of a mellow beat. I like thoughtful lyrics. I'm not really a trap rap type and I'm not really a top 40 radio guy, but I'm also not always up on the next best mixtape.
3 words that describe yourself:
Objective, skinny, and shy. I'm very shy and I cry a lot.
Hobbies outside of running a startup:
I like to go to open mics- comedy mics- and tell jokes sometimes.
A few words that come to mind to describe your experience at the EC:
My experience at the EC has been great. It's been like a fast-track MBA, since I didn't have a lot of experience in music or entrepreneurship coming in. I feel like everyone else learns one thing a day while I've learned one thing an hour. I feel like I could leave here with The UpNext and be prepared for pretty much whatever the entrepreneurial space throws at me.
Best part about Nashville:
Outside of McDougals? The attitude of the city. I grew up in Chicago, I went to school on the East Coast by New York, and I lived in LA for a while. If LA is all hype and New York is all talk and Chicago is all work then Nashville is this interesting combination of all three. It's like LA without photoshop.
Music is _____:
Dope. It's like the background noise of your life and you get to pick it. I think you could argue that music is any combination of sounds that creates some sort of rhythm. I could go outside and if I was really in touch with my inner zen and chi or whatever I could sit down, cross my legs, and imagine traffic as music. Music is really whatever you want it to be. It's just the background of your daily life.
