Project Music is the Nashville Entrepreneur Center’s leading initiative to support innovation in the music industry through the entrepreneurial creation, launch and growth of music-driven startups. The initiative provides year-round support to music-minded entrepreneurs by connecting them to the critical community, curriculum, coaches and capital resources needed to turn ideas into realities. The initiative’s capstone is an annual 16-week tech focused accelerator. Through the accelerator program, entrepreneurs are provided startup curriculum alongside an immersion in the city’s music ecosystem.
The EIR Role
The Nashville Entrepreneur Center is currently seeking an Entrepreneur-In-Residence (EIR) / Music Industry Lead to support the Project Music Accelerator. This EIR will function as a music industry expert, and provide strategic direction and insight for the music-specific curriculum, coaches and connections leading up to and during the program. The EIR will also participate in the cohort selection process and then work hand-in-hand with the startups to grow their knowledge of industry-specific challenges and opportunities (additional details below).
The Responsibilities (included, but not limited to …)
CURRICULUM & CONNECTIONS:
Vet business models for industry relevance and viability during cohort selection process.
Set industry related curriculum and establish industry related standards for business.
Recruitment of industry-specific mentors, speakers and panelists.
Moderate panels and teach industry related curriculum as needed.
Identify and organize industry related field trips and events.
Provide ongoing flow of relevant suggested industry-driven reading including blogs, articles and white papers.
Mentor each team in the cohort as requested throughout program.
Make key introductions within industry as warranted.
Work with each team to build its revenue model and validate the model’s compliance to industry specific rights’ compensation.
Maintain weekly office hours to address industry-specific questions.
Work with the EC mentor coordinator to determine mentor-startup pairings and meetings during the program.
Represent the accelerator program in industry-related interviews and panels as requested by the EC..
Identify trade show and trade media for outreach to share about the program.
Participate in weekly EC Team and Accelerator Operations Meetings.
Experience as a real-world entrepreneur as an Operator, Founder or C-Level role.
Music industry experience.
Great two-way communication skills, able to listen to entrepreneurs and distill needs to the operating team and mentors.
Passion to help entrepreneurs succeed.
On average this is a 20-25 hour/week commitment with Wednesday evenings required.
A stipend is provided.
The initial role runs November 2016 through May 2017.
